What’s happening?
It’s been a while since I’ve paid much mind to the whole design/streetwear scene, so I’m back to hand pick the few things I didn’t scroll wheel past. Let’s start from the ground up.
Footwear
Surprisingly, there have been a bunch of shoes that have garnered my attention lately which hasn’t happened for over a year now. That’s a long time for someone who used to spend countless hours on NikeTalk, eBay, and freezing my ass off in queue for the Grape Vs at the Nike Employee store.
Vans Switchback
The black upper and caramel vulcanized sole give this shoe a very understated look. However the details really come out when you look at it up close. The red hiking laces, notchback heel, padded collar, paneling, and stitching on the upper all come together to create one of the most flavorful pieces of footwear I’ve seen in a long long time.
Converse 1HUND(RED) x Huf - Skidgrip Hi
Another well done, subtle-but-not, shoe from Converse and Huf. A simple, slim profile popped out by the all over print, white lining, red lace gusset, and that Huf logo on the sole. They did it again.
Air Max 1 ND
This is a dream come true. Suede and mesh in the right places on the upper of an Air Max 1 plus a clean, wear everyday colorway is a dream come true. The speckled midsole is the icing on the damn thing. I don’t even know which one to pick, but I’d be happy with either. I keep trying to get out but I keep getting pulled back in.
Nike x DQM - Air Huarache Current ‘Bacon’
From my understanding, the bottom ones are the samples and the top ones are the actual release version. I like the samples more but I’ll take the revised ones as well. DQM stays consistent with their concepts and being a fan of the Air Max 90 ‘Bacon’, these are a no-brainer.
Apparel
It’s getting closer to winter so the importance of keeping warm is creeping back into everyone’s mindset. I put my first warm hoodie on in four months today. It was a necessary reminder that I’ve got at least six more months of this (six if next spring gets exceptionally warm again like it did this year, but I’m guessing it’ll be seven to eight more). I guess I can think of the positive aspects like being able to carry everything in my snow jacket or being able to pull the classic “”jacket around the shoulders of the date that doesn’t have a jacket even though they live in Seattle” move again.
Loopwheeler x Beams Plus
I’ve confessed my love for Loopwheeler before, but this just heats up the affair. If every piece of clothing I wore except for socks and underwear was made out of heather grey fleece I would pretty damn close to pure joy-slash-ecstasy. It’s that serious. If I had the money I’d get the chinos and the vest and wear it all day everyday with a heather grey five-panel and Loopwheeler Blazers. Well, I wouldn’t take it that far but you get the point.
Carhartt Streetwear @ Union LA
My favorite brand that was only available overseas is now available domestically. To the homie down in LA, you know who you are and you better believe I’ll be calling down for some pickups when I get my money riiight (c) Kanye. i hope this exposes more people to Carhartt as it exists as a streetwear brand and will ultimately let them enter the US market in a bigger way.

Flying Coffin Fall 2009
The graphic work done by Flying Coffin is incredible. Even though I’m not always down with the intricate graphics on some of the shirts I can respect the technique. I already got my glowing hat, so all I need is that white striped shirt.
That’s all I’ve got for this week. Have a safe weekend and I’ll leave you with some Hall & Oates to get you by this Friday.
Peace,
Richard
