UP & RUNNING

Current Inspiration: Morgan Ersery

I met Morgan almost 7 years ago during my first couple months as a first year at  the University of San Francisco. We lived in the same residence hall and that was the extent of what I knew about her. She and I had mutual friends but we didn’t become friends until the following year when we both signed up for Gospel Choir, discovering we had an interest in common. We would see each other every Monday and it became a tradition for us to go have dinner at Crossroads every Monday night post-rehearsal. We would talk about all kinds of things, school, family, boys, art, music. We were nurturing a friendship that would see us through some amazing moments over and after our college career.

Morgan is an artist, originally from Berkeley, CA. She is currently based in New York, NY where she is earning her MFA in Painting. She is also an introvert by nature, rarely choosing social situations over sitting at home and sipping tea or working in the studio. She has honed a skill that people like me have little capacity for. And all I can do each day is appreciate her talents as an artist.

What I most love about Morgan is her sense of style. (Full disclosure: one of my Google Reader and del.ic.ious tags is “channeling morgan”. Not even kidding. If I see something that I think Morgan would approve of, I save it for future reference.)

Her interests include shopping, music (everything from punk rock to bossa nova to hip hop) and international travel. She recently returned from an extended trip to London, England and Paris, France. Her goal is to leave the country at least once a year; something she’s been successful at since 2004. Is anyone else feeling the slightest twinge of jealousy?

Well, don’t.

Morgan is probably one of the most humble and modest people you will ever know. And while introverted, she manages to keep a close knit group of friends that I am honored enough to be in. She’s had two shows in New York in the past year showcasing some of her recent works. Fame will not elude her and the way she captures trends and incorporates them into her own personal style is pretty much awesome.

See y’all next Wednesday for some more inspiration.

Morgan and my daughter Terri have been close friends since the 5th or 6th grade. I am still her “2nd Mom” as far as I know. She has very supportive parents, sister & brother-in-law and nephew.
I wish her all the success in the world and wish she would call once in a while. Love ya Mo
