Soulsupreme: I think our culture hella reinforces that mentality. Combine the American ideal of results with the immediacy of the MTV generation. Everything needs to happen, now now now. This is hella prevalent in mainstream hip hop, where you have folks molded into stars overnight.

Really good interview. I love two lines near the end; “I hope they take away the fact that they can listen to something else rather than something that’s easy for them to digest.

“Nowadays, music is very throwaway in the eyes of people… [It lasts for] something like a week at most. I just want to push stuff that has a little more of an eternal value.”

This reminds me of my recent article; ” Are you not entertained” on potholes. We’re consuming music a faster rate, but people want results like immediately, almost indoctrinated to need music to be something so great so soon? And if it isn’t, does that deem the music a failure?

It’s good to see cats like Phonte & Nicolay put value back into the music so we can appreciate it. I will be copping the new album.
